Halloween Contest and Prize

Ok, I must sadly admit I suck at remembering to do contests. But, my newly-agented friend, Sara, has inspired me (uh, and reminded me) that it's been since my kid was born since I've had a contest.

That makes this my second contest. (I think...mommy brain makes me forget lots of stuff...) Seeing as it's October, and the real start of fall (I heart fall!) The prize for this contest will be a book, horror or thriller, chosen out of the list of choices by the winner. The contest will be to leave a comment about your favorite part of fall. It doesn't HAVE to be about Halloween. On October 13th (because I love the number 13) I'll put everyone's name in this nifty, cheap Halloween bowl:
(don't blame me if the bowl is hard to see, I suck at self-pictures. Well, I guess you should blame me then...)

And randomly draw the winner with my eyes closed (and hey, I can have my four-year-old record me to post the drawing here just so you know I'm being fair!). The choices for the prize are some classics and some new:

Dracula - Bram Stoker
Frankenstein - Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson
Wicked: Witch & Curse - Nancy Holder and Debbie Viquie
Vampire Academy (book #1) - Richelle Mead

Happy commenting!

  1. In early October,a unique storm rolls over the foothills of Northern California. A cool, dry storm, full of eerily-flickering sheet lightning, rolling thunder and a restless wind, it heralds the end of summer and the beginning of winter.

And there's nothing better than to grab a horse out of the pasture and ride--bareback--up the hills to the perfect vantage over the valley and watch the seasons change.

  2. Vampire Academy!!

I love fall because of the weather. It's not too hot and it's not too cold. There's no excessive sweating or excessive shivering. Everything smells crisp and leaf-like, and just stepping outside is inspirational.

    Ahh, fall.

  3. But Halloween is my favorite time of fall, especially now that we have kids to bring trick-or-treating. The twins usually go as the same thing, but this year, they decided they want to be totally different. Well, I don't think they came up with that idea, rather that they didn't agree on the costume. One wants to be a kangaroo (yeah, a kangaroo... not sure where she came up with that one) and the other wants to be Aurora (Sleeping Beauty).

  4. I love Fall in general, with its cooler weather refreshing those parched by a long, LONG summer in Texas--and it is always a long summer in Texas. But the crowning jewel of October is Halloween, which has always been my favorite holiday. I trick or treated with my baby sister till I was 16. And I still love to wear costumes. ;)

  5. Late October, just when the leaves are starting to fall, and the smell of apple cider and buring logs mixes pleasantly in the air on the walk home from school, which is narrated by the crunch of leaves as they succumb to death under my combat boots. (That's a little dark...)

It makes going to school worth it, just for that pleasnt warm, fall-y walk come. And it also leads up to Halloween, so no one can complain.

  6. By far, my favorite part of fall is football. I am a (college) football fanatic and have been since I was about ten.

    (Go BYU Cougars!)
